Every AIS Feedback Option, With a Worked Example for Each
Which AIS feedback option fits which mistake: six cases with ₹ figures for FY 2025-26, what each does to the value that pre-fills your ITR, and the cases feedback can't fix.

Picking an AIS feedback option comes down to one question about the entry: is it right, wrong in amount, someone else's, counted twice, or not yours at all? AIS (the Annual Information Statement) has an option for each of those, and the one you pick decides the figure that pre-fills your return.
This post takes one real-looking case per option, with figures for FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27), and shows what each choice does. The clicks themselves (where the Optional button is, how to open Part B) are in our step-by-step guide to submitting AIS feedback.
What feedback changes, and what it doesn't
TIS (the Taxpayer Information Summary) shows two figures for every category. The AIS FAQ defines them:
- Value processed by system: the figure after AIS merges duplicate reports by its own rules.
- Value accepted by taxpayer/confirmed by source: the figure after your feedback, or the source's confirmation of it. Only this figure pre-fills your return.
So feedback moves the pre-fill. It doesn't change what the bank, employer or registrar reported, and it doesn't change the TDS credit you can claim. TDS credit follows the deductor's TDS statement, so a wrong TDS figure needs a corrected statement from the deductor. Our post on processed value vs accepted value goes into the two numbers in more detail.
The options at a glance
| Option | Use it when | What happens to the accepted value |
|---|---|---|
| Information is correct | The entry matches your records | Stays as reported |
| Information is not fully correct | The transaction is yours but the amount or a detail is wrong | Changes to the figure you enter |
| Information relates to other PAN/Year | It belongs to a joint holder or to another financial year | The amount you attribute elsewhere drops out |
| Information is duplicate/included in other information | The same income appears twice | The duplicate stops counting |
| Information is denied | You have no connection with the transaction | Drops out |
For some kinds of information the form also shows extra options specific to that category. Read the labels on the form you open rather than assuming they match another entry's.
Case 1: Information is correct
The entry. Your bank reports savings account interest of ₹18,240 for FY 2025-26. Your passbook's interest credits for April 2025 to March 2026 add up to ₹18,240.
The choice. Nothing needs doing. Correct entries don't need feedback, and the accepted value already equals the reported one. Mark it correct only if you want a record that you checked it. Entries marked correct are also left out of the AIS Consolidated Feedback PDF, the file that collects all your feedback in one place.
Case 2: Information is not fully correct
The entry. AIS shows fixed deposit interest of ₹62,000 from your bank. You broke one deposit early in October 2025, and the bank paid reduced interest on it. Your interest certificate shows ₹41,500 for the year.
The choice. The deposit is yours and the year is right; only the amount is wrong. Pick Information is not fully correct, enter ₹41,500, and add a remark such as "FD closed early on 14 Oct 2025, interest as per bank certificate". The accepted value for that entry falls by ₹20,500.
Keep: the bank's interest certificate and the premature closure advice.
This is also the option for a wrong salary figure. If your employer's entry overstates your salary, correct the amount here. Don't deny it, because the employer and the employment are real.
Case 3: Information relates to other PAN/Year (another person)
The entry. A fixed deposit is held jointly with your mother. You are the first holder, so the bank reports the full interest of ₹90,000 against your PAN. The money came from your mother's pension savings, and the interest is hers to declare.
The choice. Pick Information relates to other PAN/Year, choose the other-PAN route and give your mother's PAN. If the deposit was funded in shares, say 50:50, attribute ₹45,000 to her and keep ₹45,000 as yours.
Keep: proof of who funded the deposit, such as the bank statement showing the transfer from her account. The tax follows whoever owns the money, not the order of names on the receipt.
Case 4: Information relates to other PAN/Year (another year)
The entry. AIS for FY 2025-26 shows ₹12,000 of interest on a deposit that matured, and was paid to you, in March 2025. You offered it in your AY 2025-26 return.
The choice. Pick Information relates to other PAN/Year and give FY 2024-25 as the correct year. The ₹12,000 drops out of this year's accepted value.
Keep: the bank statement showing the March 2025 credit and the AY 2025-26 return that included it. If a TDS amount came with the entry, check where the deductor reported it: credit for TDS follows the year in the TDS statement.
Case 5: Information is duplicate/included in other information
The entry. Your bank deducted TDS on deposit interest, so the interest shows under TDS/TCS Information. The same bank also reports interest under SFT Information. Both entries show ₹41,500 for the same deposit.
The choice. First open TIS and check the processed value for interest. AIS removes some duplicates on its own, so the processed value may already count ₹41,500 once. If it shows ₹83,000, mark one of the two entries Information is duplicate/included in other information and point it to the entry it repeats.
Keep: the bank's interest certificate, which gives one figure for the year.
Case 6: Information is denied
The entry. An SFT entry shows credit card bill payments of ₹12,40,000 to a bank where you have never held a card.
The choice. Pick Information is denied. The amount drops out of the accepted value. Use this only when you have no link with the transaction at all. A denied entry can go back to the source to confirm, and if the bank stands by its report, the question comes back to you.
Also check whether someone has used your PAN. If you've never had a relationship with that bank, write to it, and keep its reply.
Mistakes that cause trouble later
- Denying an entry that is yours but wrong. If the employer, bank or broker is right and only the figure is off, use not fully correct. A denial that the source contradicts looks worse than a correction.
- Moving income to a family member without proof. Attributing interest to another PAN is fine when that person funded the deposit. Keep the paper trail, and make sure they declare it.
- Using feedback to fix TDS credit. Feedback won't add missing TDS to your claim. Ask the deductor to file a correction statement.
- Filing with the AIS figure when your records differ. File with the figure your documents support. Feedback records your reason. It doesn't decide the case.
If CPC's figures differ from your return when it processes it, you get a proposed adjustment to answer before any addition. A NUDGE email about a mismatch is a separate prompt, covered in what to do about NUDGE emails.
After you submit
According to the AIS FAQ, your feedback then shows against the entry, and the modified value appears beside the reported one. The activity history updates, you can download an acknowledgement receipt, and you get an email and SMS confirming it. You can change feedback later; the FAQ says there is currently no limit on how many times.
Feedback given on the FY 2025-26 AIS affects the pre-fill for AY 2026-27. That return is still filed and processed under the Income-tax Act, 1961, even though the Income-tax Act, 2025 has applied to income earned from 1 April 2026.
myutils.me is an independent app, not affiliated with the Income Tax Department. If you look after AIS for several family PANs, it can bring back AIS and TIS for each PAN you add when you sync it, so you can spot the entries to fix before logging in to give feedback on the portal.
FAQ
Do I have to give feedback on every AIS entry?
No. Feedback is optional. Give it only where an entry is wrong, duplicated, belongs to someone else or another year, or isn't yours.
Which option do I use if the amount is wrong?
Information is not fully correct. Enter the right amount and add a remark that says which document it comes from.
Can I change feedback after submitting it?
Yes. The AIS FAQ says there is currently no limit on the number of times you can modify feedback you've already given.
Does feedback change the TDS credit I can claim?
No. TDS credit follows the deductor's TDS statement. If the TDS figure is wrong, the deductor has to file a correction statement.
What happens if I deny an entry that the source later confirms?
The source can confirm its original report. If it does, the department may ask you about the transaction, and you'll need documents to back your position.
